The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources – National Inland Fisheries Technology Center (BFAR-NIFTC) will produce upgraded strains of Common Carp (Tanay, Sukabumi, Majalaya, and Vietnam strains) and Catfish (local strains from Laguna, Rizal, and nearby provinces) through selective breeding at its hatchery and pond facilities. These fingerlings will be distributed to BFAR Regional Offices, Technology Outreach Stations (TOS), and selected LGUs to serve as breeders for satellite multi-species hatcheries.
The Center will also conduct national training on multi-species hatchery management and culture systems for TOS technical staff, LGUs, fisherfolk, and private sector participants. Additionally, BFAR-NIFTC aims to assess current facilities and operations of TOS to ensure the transferred hatchery and production technologies are suitable for their respective locations.
