Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources – National Inland Fisheries Technology Center (BFAR-NIFTC) is responsible for the production of selected indigenous freshwater fish species, including Ayungin, Biya, Native Hito, and Ulang, which are native to the country and considered high-value commodities. The fingerlings produced will support the Balik Sigla sa Ilog at Lawa (BASIL) Program’s stock enhancement activities nationwide. Ongoing trials and technology development will focus on breeding and grow-out culture protocols for these species. Additionally, the production and packaging of information, education, and communication (IEC) materials, as well as commodity-based aquaculture technologies, will follow to encourage replication, distribution, and adoption within the freshwater aquaculture sector.
