This initiative focuses on the sustainable production of indigenous freshwater fish species to support biodiversity conservation, poverty alleviation, and food security. It includes developing breeding protocols for key species such as Ayungin, Biya, Native Catfish, and Ulang, establishing gene banks, and creating networks of regional and private hatcheries dedicated to indigenous fish production. Additionally, it promotes grow-out culture technologies for high-value species and conducts experimental trials on the induced breeding of endemic fishes.
The Center aims to ensure the sustainable production of native species like Giant Freshwater Prawn, Silver Perch, and Goby while protecting ecological balance. These efforts contribute to preserving biodiversity, enhancing resilience against invasive species, and mitigating habitat degradation.
