In order to control the proliferation of Chitala ornata (Knifefish) in Laguna Lake, a project entitled Containment of Knifefish Infestation in Laguna de Bay was created by various agencies in the country. This inter-agency group was composed of DENR, BMB, JZGMSAT, LLDA, CDD, DSWD, DOST, PCCARRD, IARRD, DTI, BFAR 4A, LDBIFARMC, LIFARMC and RIFARMC that aims to rehabilitate and conserve the productivity of the lake by reducing the factors that causes decrease production in aquaculture and capture fisheries.

Meetings of the Inter-Agency Technical Working Group were regularly conducted evaluating the Containment of Knifefish Infestation in Laguna de Bay.  It was conducted at least once a month actively participated by various agencies headed preceded by Mr. Adan S. Diamante of the BFAR – National Inland Fisheries Technology Center (BFAR). The meeting aimed to evaluate/assess the implemented strategies for the containment of Knifefish as well as the comparison result of monthly catch of each species in Laguna de Bay.
